Toast Fit

Okay, so MOST of the time Thoreau is a happy camper, easy going, laughing you get the picture. But for the last several days, at breakfast, he's been very unhappy. It all started with toast, I made myself some for breakfast and didn't make him any. In my defense he had his O's, I thought that would be okay, but when he saw my toast he went crazy. Making all kinds of noises and hand gestures, refusing to each his breakfast until I finally made him a piece of toast. So for all the mom's out there, here are pictures of my darling angel throwing a 'toast fit'.

Hi Mr. President

Yesterday we took a road trip to Plains, GA to attend the annual Peanut Festival and President Carter's book signing. It was a great trip, although we left at 7:30am, we arrived in plenty of time to tour the town (pop. 700) and check out the vendors before Cliff and Thoreau snagged some shade for the parade and I stood in the book line. Thoreau had never been to a parade and was fascinated by all the people, animals and noises. He especially liked the fire engine and the arrival the of the S.A.M. Short Line. The highlight of our day though was taking Thoreau to the book signing (after taking turns standing in line for 3 hours, and both getting burned), even though he had no clue what was going on. We had the President sign several books for us, but will put them away until Thoreau no longer eats books. When it was our turn in line, Mr. Carter looked up and said "my what a big boy, how old is he?" and then asked his name to which he replied, "huh, Thoreau, that's great". Needless to say we were really excited, it was great to meet someone (even briefly) who is such an integral part of American History. Exhausted from all the festivities, Thoreau slept all the way home.

Blogging/Stats

Okay, so Cliff and I have given in to technology. I know this is funny coming from someone with the blog URL we have, but I kind of feel like sometimes blogging/email/social networking sites take away the human element and the need for phone conversations. Although on the plus side, this is a wonderful way to let everyone know how we are doing without having to call 50 people, since I don't have that much free time anyway. Also, this lets all you picture hungry people see my bambino, sorry I was so lax in sending out fresh photos. :)

So for stats (bear in mind these are 1 month old) at 9mos Thoreau was 26lbs 8oz and 32 inches tall. He's now 10 mos and we swear that he's heavier and taller, or else he's just better at stretching to reach stuff on the counter! He says Dadada all the time, for everything, but when he wants Cliff he'll actually say Dada. He can also say Momma, AH(the abbreviation of my sister's name) and Bye Bye and will wave for 'bye' and 'hello', he calls dogs 'da' and is trying to say cat although it comes out 'caw'.

His favorite things to eat are organic o's, different squashes, his left thumb, all fruits but especially bananas, and any magazines that you didn't pick up! He's really teaching us to clean out and throw away, right away. I just can't believe his birthday is less than two months away. My baby is growing up (pardon me while I go cry now!). In all seriousness, though, it's great to watch his personality develop more and to see what a beautiful (both in and out) child he is, what a blessing to witness such a miracle!
